Back Pain and Pain Management With a Slipped Disc

Sunday, August 1, 2010

Slipped disc back pain can be severe, if not crippling. In many cases, with the proper chiropractic treatment, a slipped or protruding disc can heal. Inflamed, swollen, perhaps from a car accident or other sudden impact to the body, the horrible back pain, that often radiates into the legs, or arms, is not necessarily going to become chronic.

The sooner you get a correct diagnosis for severe spinal muscle pain, the better. Understanding what degree of disc protrusion you might have is good for you and your doctor to know.

A chiropractor can decrease the swelling and inflammation of soft tissues, including a bulging disc. Increasing circulation with ice, ultrasound therapy and other physio therapies, diminishes the pain, and initiates healing.

Regular visits are needed initially, to gain on the condition. Icing at home periodically (or work, keep an ice pack there too), along with good lumbar support at your desk, in your car, and at home, will support lower back chiropractic treatment.

If you have a herniated disc in your neck, be aware of how you gaze at the television, and your computer monitor. Adjust your furniture, office chair or other components involved, to make sure you can gaze comfortably without tilting your chin up or down.

Soft tissue pain can be very severe even in cases when there is no disc herniation. As bad as it feels, be relieved if your chiropractor tells you it is "just" muscle spasms and spinal mis-alignments. And the more care you can give your sore back during your daily activities, the faster you will get back pain relief.
