How To Sleep Less And Have More Energy

Friday, August 13, 2010

Are you the type of person who's always on the go? Do you want to accomplish a lot of things? Do you wish you have enough energy and time to go places and do lots of things? Then there's no reason for you to stay glued to your bed. You should sleep less and stay awake for longer hours.

But is it possible for you to get less sleep without feeling tired? Yes, it is. Can you sleep for only 5 or 6 hours and stay energized during the day? Yes, you can. The key here is to get better sleep while spending less time in bed.

To achieve that, consider these recipes for a good quality sleep:

Diet

Eat a healthy and well-balanced diet. Have a good balance of carbohydrates, protein and fruits and vegetables in your meals. Try to eat light meals and snacks every 3 or 4 hours to keep your energy levels up during the day.

Exercise

Exercise is good for your body and overall health. Do a regular workout routine everyday. Try to do exercises that work on your legs, back and abdominal muscles. But if you cannot do these, a 15- to 20-minute jog or brisk walk is fine. These exercises not only will lift your mood throughout the day, they will also help improve the quality of your sleep. If you exercise, you can have less sleep without feeling tired.

Water

It's a must that you keep yourself hydrated. Water is very important for our body. It keeps our system running clean and smooth. Drink at least 8 glasses of water everyday, starting with 1 glass right when you get up in the morning. Always keep a bottle of water handy throughout the day. However, stop drinking fluids a few hours before bed time, so you don't have to rush to the bathroom in the middle of the night.

Mental State

To be able to sleep deeply, don't go to bed with any kind of fear, sadness, anger, worry or even positive stimulation. De-clutter your mind so you can get less sleep without feeling tired when you wake up the following day. Try to write down your worries, dreams and other concerns. Do something, like reading a light book, praying or meditating before you turn out the lights and go to bed.

Sleeping Environment

Having the right sleeping environment is also important. Make sure that your room isn't too hot or too cold, too dark or too bright. A little "white noise" or an ambient music can help you relax and have a good night's sleep.

Give these tips some thought. You may have to make some changes, but it will all be worth it in the end. You will be healthier, happier and more active and productive.
