Being a strength and fitness trainer here in the Atlanta, Georgia area now for over 10 years I have had the opportunity to work with a lot of athletes and everyday people that needed to develop strong powerful shoulders. What I found is that most people that encountered shoulder problems did so over long term misuse of their bodies throughout a lifetime of training. If you are wanting to build your shoulder muscles then you have got to learn how to do so effectively and to protect them when training.
Workout Your Shoulders
If you are training and working overhead lifts in order to build on some strong shoulders then you have got to be aware of something. You see whenever you perform overhead lifts with any kind of resistance you can put your shoulders into a vulnerable situation. This is very common when an individual fails to execute what we refer to in the strength and conditioning field as shoulder packing. Shoulder packing is where you suck the shoulder into the socket by keeping it close to the body and contracting your lat muscles to engage in the overhead lift. This means that you are utilizing your big muscle groups to support any weight either overhead or out in front of you whenever you perform a press. That's right, I said a press!
I know that most of the time you think of the latissimus dorsi (lats) as being involved with more pulling oriented drills, but to truly push the heavier loads you have to engage them during the presses. You will be able to press more weight and protect and strengthen your shoulders at the same time. Whenever you go to build your shoulder muscles you should make sure that you are packing them and you will never have problems. This is a truly effective method for you to engage in that will save you a lot of future pain and heart ache over the long haul.
If you haven't already started to implement this tactic in your lifting then you are truly putting yourself at risk. Take the time to learn more by accessing more of my articles on the subject for free. If you don't you may end up on the bad side of a workout! Remember that most anyone can train hard, but only the best train smart my friend. Give it a try so you are protecting yourself!
