Create Future You Would Want for Your Children

No-one lives forever. No-one knows what happens after we die but we are fairly certain that this life is finite. Despite this, it’s easy to feel that we can live forever, if only through our children, and our children’s children.

If eternal life is achieved through procreation then we are the ones who quite literally choose heaven or hell for our eternity through the lives we lead today. In other words, we make the future for our children, so if we want the world to be more like heaven and less like hell, it’s our responsibility to do something about it while we are still alive.

The world isn’t just the way we make it; it’s the way we teach our children to make it

As parents it’s our responsibility to teach our children to do what we believe to be the right thing. Our children develop so much of their personality from their parents. So it’s the responsibility of the parents to teach children to be ethical, honorable and responsible for their actions.

Our planet is our only home and we are passing it down to our children. As of yet our children do not have the technology required to ‘move home’, so they’re stuck with what we leave them.

If the house, bungalow, flat, trailer or whatever you live in had been handed down through every generation in your family, you would want to keep it in good condition for your children and make sure they did too.

So why don’t we think like this about our planet; our one true home?

Humans are a competitive bunch. By the nature of evolution we must be competitive to survive. But maybe it’s time we started thinking about our planets future as well as our own.

Most people care and love their family. Parents want the best for their children, grandparents want the best for their grandchildren and great grandparents want the best for their great grandchildren.

So is it strange that most people don’t care at all about their great great great grand children?

By the time our great great great grandchildren are born, earth could be facing a major ecological crisis. Oil is a non-renewable resource. It’s going to run out. Yet we continue to burn it like there’s no tomorrow. Ask yourself, do you care?

It’s likely that unless we start fueling innovation in sustainable living to a far greater extent than we are currently doing, we will soon be forced to make some harsh and difficult decisions to save ourselves.

And while your choice is fairly limited now, the more you make sustainable choices the more sustainable choices will grow. So next time you make a purchase, choose an eco-friendly product alternative. Choose something not made using oil. Choose organic food. Choose a green energy supplier. Choose eco-friendly gadgets.
